The Now. The Present.

"Not in another place
But this place.
Not in another hour
But this hour."
Walt Whitman

I go for morning walks and sometimes evening walks. I see many people do the same. I don't know what motivates them to get up early in the morning at 5 a.m. and go for a walk. For me the inspiration is staying fit and following a time table(true source of inspiration being my mom).
And also watching the sun rise, listening to the chirping of birds as they sing to the world to wake them up, to feel the morning breeze wash my face, to sometimes feel the stillness and the rhythm of it all .
Its a refreshing experience every morning. But one thing really makes me wonder why do people put on their earphones and listen to music while out on a walk or a stroll ? I mean I know its their choice and I totally respect it but seriously just cut that music out for some time and listen to the morning melodies of the nature. I am really sure you'll love it.

When I chose to listen to music during my walk or any other time, its mainly because I want to cut people out or maybe because I am in my memory land, living everything all over again.

I know and I am hundred percent sure music does that to all of us. Take us to a time In the past, make us relive the memories, make us cry sometimes, make us laugh some other time. Sometimes it may so happen that we might travel to the future and start making up scenarios In our head which might not even come true. In either case what music does to us is, it takes us away from the present. Now I don't claim here that the fault is of the sweet melody playing in your ears but the fault is neither yours. Its just that we humans tend to associate memories to every random thing we can so that we hold on to that memory for a longer period of time.

It can be anything, a song, a book, a quote, an ice cream flavour, a particular word , (in my case even a metro station) etc etc.

The fault is nobody's. Its just that we have to learn to live in the present more and make every moment count in our lives. What good can dwelling in the past do for anyone?

So next time you plan to go for a walk or hiking or strolling or incase you are just spending time on your own, do that minus the memories and the things that remind you of them.
I am not saying, and i repeat NOT saying, that memories are bad or you should let go of them but there is just no point of dwelling in them or creating scenarios based on what could have happened in the past and the "should have's" and the "might have's" etc.

Live in the present, that's the most beautiful part of life, the RIGHT NOW. Make most of it. Do what you love, do what you couldn't do in the past, do now what you want to do in the future(cause who knows about tomorrow).
Love. Live. Believe. Laugh. Dance without music. Sing even if you get the notes wrong. Do all of this for yourself. And your happiness( and its not selfish to do so :))

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
Mark Twain
